Scottish Weather – Could Be Worse!
16 July 2015 – The northern French town of Troyes, in the Champagne Region, is best known for its cathedral, examples of medieval architecture, and more recently, as the home to Lacoste.
On average, Troyes boasts a very temperate summertime high of 22°C. This summer, however, all of France was experiencing a heat wave so when the temperature was still hovering around 24°C at midnight, it wasn’t that unusual.
What happened next was, however. Things started to get really bubbly and it had nothing to do with the famous tipple for which the region is known. A weather phenomenon known as a Heat Burst hit Troyes and the temperature rose a whopping nine degrees Celsius between midnight and 1 am! This freak event is particularly rare in France and generally follows very intense thunderstorms.
Whilst the heat wave remains and temperatures remain above average, fortunately, the weather forecasts suggests they will hover at just over the norm for this time of year. Now that’s something to cheer about!
